Hannah Needs Prayers

with one comment

So many of you are compassionate and faithful prayer warriors and ask for prayer intentions. Michelle Malkin’s post today is heart-wrenching. Please keep 4-year old Hannah Garman in your prayers as all the other parents in the world facing the loss of their child to illness.

  1. I couldn’t post this on Malkin’s blog, so I wanted to post this here. For those of you who are struggling with pain and how God can allow one so young to hurt, I ask you to check out the lengthy treatise on the subject by C.S. Lewis called “The Problem Of Pain.”

The discussion Lewis goes through is one of logical discourse. The simplistic discussion goes something like this:
    1) God wishes to interact with us, and for us to be free to love him.
    2) In order to interact, there must be a medium to interact with (enter “World and all matter” stage right)
    3) Since it’s just me and God, there’s Us, there must also be interaction between Us and the world and all matter.
    4) For love to be given freely, we must have free will to act in the world and also for the world to act on us.
    5) Due to the above constraints, it will be impossible for all “Us” and the world and matter to exist in a state of perfect happiness and love without pain. Sickness and pain are natural occurrences of living within the system of existence and nature. This is unavoidable. Death therefore is a requirement of life and vice-versa.

Of course all the above does not make any pain we feel easier to handle, but it does help to explain why there is Pain.

Of course there are miracles that occur, God reserves the right to do what God wishes to do- and if he chooses a miracle here, then I’m sure we’ll all be very happy. 🙂

I’m not Lewis, by any means, so if in doubt about anything in the above, please see the original discussion by Lewis, and forgive me for getting anything wrong. 🙂

    My prayers are with Hannah!
