Animal Rights Furor Over Pope’s Fashions

with 2 comments

The Italian Association For the Defense of Animals has raised a weak 2,260 signatures appealing to Pope Benedict XVI to stop wearing real ermine fur with his traditional papal robes. Defended by Cardinal Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, Pope Benedict will continue to make fashionable use of God’s creatures.

“Aren’t there more important battles to wage?” he asked. “There are human beings who merit more urgent assistance that no one is taking care of. And if we eat animals, we can wear them.”

It would be nice if the several thousand Italian petitioners would work as hard against global abortion, poverty, starvation, and infanticide in third world countries that kill millions of God’s creations yearly.

  2. Typical of the Catholic Church. I they’re so concerned about humans in need sell your gold and expensive trinkets and help the poor. I wouldn’t expect the Pope or the Church to even consider the humane treatment of animals. Its all in the money. That’s one reason I left the Church and became Wiccan/Pagan. We respect nature.
